The Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation partners with Life Rolls On. PDF Print E-mail

Leaders in SCI advocacy, the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation and the Life Rolls On Foundation have partnered up in the fight to cure paralysis and improve quality of life for the millions of people living with paralysis. The Life Rolls On Foundation is based in California and will be overseeing the West Coast headquarters of the CDRF, in L.A.

This announcement was made last week, in remembrance of what would have been Christopher Reeve’s 57th birthday. Reeve’s son Matt will continue to be the director of the CDRF. The founders of LRO, Jesse and Josh Billauer will continue to work with their non-profit, in addition to providing input for the CDRF West Coast division. Like Christopher Reeve, LRO co-founder Jesse is paralyzed, due to a spinal cord injury. The LRO is especially known for the innovative programs they offer, which allow opportunities for people in the SCI community to participate in a variety of outdoor & sporting events. They Will Surf Again is one of LRO’s many successful programs.

This merger is a great example of I Believe Inc’s philosophy of working together towards the same goal. I hope that other non-profit organizations will follow the lead of this partnership and make new connections with other advocates. We are all striving towards two key goals; finding a cure to paralysis and improving the quality of life for people currently living with paralysis. These are both very big goals. However, creating partnerships will help us all reach our goals faster, through the collaboration of ideas and raising funds.

Kudos to the CDRF and LRO! We, the members of I Believe Inc. are here to help you spread the word and will continue to encourage others to unite in our shared vision. I’m excited to see what will come from the joining of these two wonderful organizations!

A friend sent me an article this past Sunday about some recently reported findings for possible paralysis treatments. I thought I should share it, for those of you that might have missed the news. The full report was published in the current issue of Nature Neuroscience, although you need to purchase the article if you don't already subscribe to the journal. You can only read the abstract for free. The report can be downloaded directly on through Nature Neuroscience website. Here's the link to the Yahoo News article that my friend sent me:
